Welcome to Branch’s Driving School, Inc. (BDS) “The Choice of Generations.” Branch’s Driving School proudly celebrates its 46th year of dependable service to the drivers and future drivers of Syracuse and Central New York.
We are pleased that you have made the choice to let us serve you. We take pride in our work and are very committed and dedicated to improving our quality of service. We have put together a list of information that will assist you and familiarize you with our services and school.
Learning to drive is a responsibility that should be taken seriously; therefore, knowledge and skills acquired from Branch’s Driving School should be learned thoroughly and reviewed regularly.
OUR BACKGROUND
Branch’s Auto Driving School was established in April of 1963. In June on 1985, the company was incorporated and became Branch’s Driving School, Inc. (BDS). Branch’s began as a one-man operation and has grown into a well-trained staff of 25+ employees. Our corporate office is located in downtown Syracuse at 212 North Franklin Street (next door to the famous Dinosaur Bar-B-Q).
ABOUT THE PROCESS
To schedule an appointment for a Private Driving Lesson or the 5- Hour Pre-Licensing Course, you must have a valid learner’s permit or a driver’s license. If you have an International License, you must obtain a New York State learner’s permit to take your road test. You may take Private Driving Lessons prior to taking the 5-Hour Course and with an international license.
ABOUT OUR INSTRUCTORS
The staff of BDS is a very competent, patient and knowledgeable group. Many of the instructors have been teaching for several years. Some of them also teach other Drivers’ Education courses. Our staff is well trained and strives for the best. All instructors are annually certified by the State of New York as well as the National Safety Council.

HOW TO CANCEL AN APPOINTMENT?
If a student is unable to make an appointment, please call the office at least 24 hours in advance. We try to accommodate everyone – with your help this can be done. For driving lessons only: a 24-hour notice of cancellation is required or you will forfeit that lesson. Unless severe weather conditions or emergency, the driving school will not cancel your appointment. Be prepared for your lesson (bring your permit). |
DRIVING LESSON-EXPECTATIONS
During your driving lessons we will cover the necessary skills that contribute to you becoming a good defensive driver as well as acquire the skills needed to pass the NYS Road Test. It is very helpful to review your driver’s manual. We will teach and demonstrate to you the skills that you will need for driving. We recommend that you practice the materials taught to you between lessons. We do not drive on the super-highways for a regular driving lesson, but we do have a super-highway driving course (Call for details).
ARE YOU READY FOR YOUR ROAD TEST?
After mastering the necessary skill that it takes to drive safely, your instructor will discuss with you the option to take your road test. If the instructor feels that you are not ready, he/she will advise and consult with you; however, you do have the final decision. As a student, you may rent our vehicle for the road test. If you are a BDS driving student, we will schedule the road test appointment for you - free of charge! *We do not make any guarantees that you will pass the road test. We can say most individuals pass their road test on their first attempt based on our training.
HOW TO SCHEDULE A PDL APPT.
To schedule a driving lesson, you must call the main office and make the appointment. We can pick you up at home, work, or school. During your first appointment, your instructor will evaluate your skills and give an assessment of how many lessons you may need. We do not have a requirement as to how many lessons you must take. Payment is made at the beginning of each lesson or you may pay by phone. We accept cash, check, Visa, MasterCard Debit Cards and Discover Card. *Call one day in advance if paying by credit card.

***You will receive an MV285 Blue Card upon completion of the course. Private Driving Lessons "does NOT" count as Driver's Ed. You will need to complete Driver's Ed if you wish to obtain the Blue Card, as well as drive at 17 at night, and insurance reduction.
